Tunnel Jet Racing: Help

Game Play

TJR is designed to be played using the tilt control of your device. This allows precise and responsive control of your jet racer. In rough and bumpy environments, such as on some trains, tilt control may be difficult to use and you can switch to touch control. See the Controls page for more information.

Most races are 3 laps long and will take 2 to 3 minutes to complete. A bell will sound at the end of each lap and your race progress and race position are always shown on screen.

Race Start

When starting a race you should wait until all lights at the top of your screen turn green and then press the Full button to set maximum throttle. If you increase throttle before the lights turn green the automatic starter control will force your engine to stutter and you will have a slower start.

Speed Control

The slider on the side of the screen is used to set your throttle. Touching the top of the slider or using the Full button will set maximum throttle. You can set the throttle to any value, including a slow reverse, by touching the screen at the appropriate point. If you use a control method other than tilt or touch control please see the controls page.

Pressing the Brake button will reduce your speed rapidly with out changing your throttle settings. You might wish to brake for short periods in tricky tunnel sections to avoid hitting the side of the tunnel.

Although you can use the brake and throttle control to reduce speed to help navigate twisty sections of tunnels, generally you will want to leave throttle on full if you wish to win races.

Targeting

You may target other racers by pressing the Target button. The first press will target the racer nearest you, subsequent rapid presses will cycle through the racers further in front of you.

When a jet racer is targeted you will see a target box around that racer with the pilots name and current race position. The color of the box indicates the racers relative speed to you. A red box indicates the racer is going faster than you and you are falling behind it, a green box indicates you are going faster than the racer and are gaining on it.

Weapons

TJR is primarily a racing game, but there are some weapons available to help hinder opponents and add some fun and difficulty to the races. Only 1 weapon (in some cases none) is available for a particular race, unless you practice that course in which case you can select your weapon.

Engine Disruptor has a high fire rate, a direct hit causes the engines of a jet racer to stutter and slow. Multiple hits to an opponent can cause them to reduce speed rapidly. Be careful, you may have to avoid hitting a slowly moving racer at any time.
Steering Disruptor also has a high fire rate, a direct hit causes the steering of a jet racer to become unpredictable. Multiple hits to an opponent will cause their racer to be uncontrollable. Affected racers will often hit tunnel walls and be easy to overtake.
Contact Explosives have a slower fire rate and explode on contact with any object. A direct hit causes a racer to slow and blasts it off course. Contact explosives also explode on contact with tunnel walls and the shock waves will affect the steering of nearby racers. Contact explosives have a cumulative effect and can cause devastation among the racers, particularly when a sizeable group are all attacking each other.

Other weapons are in development and should be available via an upgrade soon.
